Fall leaves in winston-salem

Go “Leaf Peeping”

You can catch fall’s beautiful red, orange, and yellow leaves anywhere in Winston-Salem, but some spots are especially stunning this time of year. We recommend visiting Reynolda Gardens, Salem Lake, or any of these great walking locations.

Hike in the Mountains

For the outdoor adventurer, fall hiking is a treat! You can enjoy the cooler weather and take in spectacular views of the sweeping autumn landscape. Not sure where to go? Check out our guide to hiking trails near Winston-Salem.

Apple Picking

Fall means apple season is in full swing! Head to any of these local apple orchards for a memorable date or family activity. Some farms even have fun activities like hayrides & apple cannons and themed treats like apple cider donuts. We also recommend you attend the  annual festival in Historic Bethabara Park on Saturday, September 28.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Whether you use pumpkins for decoration, making delicious pies, or carving, there’s nothing like searching through a pumpkin patch for the perfect pumpkin.

Navigate a Corn Maze

Wait, didn’t we come this way earlier? Find your way through a corn maze at one of these local farms; some of them even increase the difficulty with night corn mazes!

Sip on Fall Drinks

Let’s be honest, we were all counting down the days until we could order a pumpkin spice latte again. But that’s not the only fall-themed drink! Try seasonal drinks at Winston-Salem’s coffee shops and/or downtown bars.

Celebrate Oktoberfest

The German holiday begins in late September, despite what its name implies. Enjoy German food and music, new beer releases, and stein-holding contests at breweries like Wise Man Brewing, Fiddlin’ Fish, and Joymongers Barrel Hall.

Unwind at a Vineyard

Early fall is grape harvest, which means vineyards will be humming with activity! Make it a romantic date and enjoy fine wine while taking in beautiful autumn views at these local vineyards.

Watch a Football Game

It’s football season! Cheer on the Demon Deacons or the WSSU Rams in person or catch the big game with your buddies at a sports bar.

Go to the Carolina Classic Fair

The Carolina Classic Fair will be at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds from October 4-13. Ride on the Ferris wheel, watch the nightly fireworks, and try classic fair foods like fried Oreos and funnel cakes!
