Halloween is upon us, and there are plenty of scary attractions near Winston-Salem! Whether you’re looking for haunted houses, spooky trails, terrifying tours, or a family-friendly scare, we’ve got your October covered. Here’s a list of the most frightening things to do in Winston-Salem.

Wicked Whimsies
LOCATION | 6130 Yadkinville Rd, Pfafftown
Walk this trail…if you dare. Going on its 12th year, Wicked Whimsies features over 17 scenes and includes 70+ actors. The trail also offers glow sticks to visitors you can bring with you to let actors know to tone down the scare.
Bonus: Bring your kids on October 15 for a scare-free trick-or-treating experience!

Woods of Terror
LOCATION | 5601 N Church St, Greensboro
Not for the faint of heart, Woods of Terror features over a dozen different petrifying attractions. Journey through the Upside Down, explore Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, survive the Miner’s Massacre, and of course, visit the Monster Midway for live music, food, and a Halloween parade.
Pro-tip: Consider getting the Fast Pass to skip the lines.
Kersey Valley Spookywoods
LOCATION | 1615 Kersey Valley Rd, Archdale
Set on the grounds of a 92-acre farm, there’s plenty of space for scares at the Spookywoods. Visitors will find there’s no shortage of ways to be horrified with 22+ themed sets like Norman’s Nightmare and Pumpkin Hollow.
Good To Know: Spookywoods added 12 new sets this year, so prepare for an even more terrifying experience!
Spooky Bottom Haunted Trail
LOCATION | 6059 Union Grove Church Rd, Seagrove
Walk through a mile of terrifying scenes at Spooky Bottom Haunted Trail. Don’t miss the midway, featuring glow-in-the-dark axe-throwing, an escape room, and gel blaster battles.
Bonus: Return to the trail in May for a special summer event where you fight your way through a zombie horde!
Carolina History & Haunts
LOCATION | 848 West Fifth St, Winston-Salem
Go for a haunted walking tour through Winston-Salem’s historic West End district. You’ll learn about the local history, haunts, and superstitious customs. The 90-minute tour even passes by some reportedly haunted locations.
Pro-tip: The tours are reservation only, so make sure to grab your spot before they’re gone!
Night Corn Mazes
LOCATION | Various farms
If you’re up for a less intense thrill, a night corn maze is just the thing for you! There are multiple farms with corn mazes that stay open late, including Armstrong Artisan Farm, Fryes Creek Family Farm, and Jones Strawberry Farm.
Bonus: If you get to these farms before dark, you can enjoy all their other attractions such as hayrides, apple cannons, petting zoos, and much more!
