Winston-Salem is home to many incredible murals—after all, we are the City of Arts and Innovation. But who are the people behind these works of art?
One of them is Christina Parrish, an art educator turned full-time muralist!
February 10, 2025

The Start
Christina has always had a passion for art, but she didn’t start painting murals until 2016. That year, she painted a mural for the art club at the school where she worked.
Over the next few years, she continued creating new school murals. In 2020, she decided to turn her mural painting into a business, and by June 2024, she made it her full-time career.
- Fun Fact: Christina continues to donate a mural to WS/FCS each year! She’s painted in North Forsyth High School, Reagan, Glenn, and Cash Elementary.
The Art
You can find Christina’s artwork all over Winston-Salem and Kernersville! Some of her favorite projects include the murals she’s painted for Bar Nola, The Dutch Light, The Boho Depot, and Kaleideum.
Most recently, she completed a mural in West End featuring North Carolina’s state bird and flower!
- Behind the Scenes: Christina paints one to two large murals a month, which take an average of five days to complete.
Christina’s Advice
Have you ever thought about becoming a mural artist? We asked Christina what advice she would give a beginner muralist.
“If you want to be a mural artist, the answer is pretty simple,” she said. “Paint one! There are so many ways that you can build a portfolio that doesn’t require giving your work away for free. Creativity is valuable! Charge your worth!”
- The Community: “The mural painting community is very welcoming! I learned everything I know about my process from other mural artists.”
What’s Next?
Christina is preparing for the Kernersville Mural Festival, a live painting event taking place in Downtown Kernersville on May 2-4, 2025.
