Getting the Call

Casting agents contacted Chef Justin a year and a half ago. After multiple interviews, they chose him in September 2023, and he competed in January of this year!

Background

Chef Justin is no stranger to Winston-Salem’s food scene. He’s worked at Jeffrey Adams, Hakka Chow, Krankies, and other restaurants in the area.

Heff’s Burger Club, which he opened in August 2022 with Heather Hill, his business partner (she’s the Heff in the restaurant’s name), was a semifinalist for the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant in 2023.

Support

Chef Justin is also competing in Chef Carla Hall’s 2024 Favorite Chef competition. The winner receives $25,000, appears on the cover of Taste of Home magazine, and has the opportunity to cook with Chef Carla Hall!

Chef Justin said he would use the prize money to expand Heff’s brand, give his staff bonuses, and replace worn-down equipment. You can vote for him here!

In Good Company

This is Winston-Salem’s second local to appear on a Food Network show this year. Anna Simeonides, founder and owner of To Your Health Bakery in Winston-Salem, showcased her skills on Food Network’s “Spring Baking Championship” this March.
