RiverRun International Film Festival kicks off this week, one of 27+ events in Winston-Salem this weekend (April 16-19)!

Thursday, April 16

  • Evening in the Atrium – Get lost in the smooth sound of Freeport Jazz while enjoying small bites from Downtown Grille at 500 West 5th. Free to attend. 5-7 PM
  • Mahjong – Learn the basics of the game with Camel City Mahjong at the Peace Haven Chick-fil-A! 9:30 AM
  • New Exhibition – Check out Sawtooth’s 80th anniversary exhibition, “Making Space to Create,” featuring 130+ artists! Opening night includes hors d’oeuvres, hands-on activities, and storytelling with MUSE WS. 5-8 PM
  • Cooking Class – Learn to make East Pakistani curry with chef Mary Haglund at Southern Home & Kitchen! 6 PM
  • 3rd Street Soundwaves – Jam out as Ears to the Ground performs a free concert right in front of Kaleideum! 5:30-8:30 PM
  • Vinyl Night – Bring your favorite vinyl to Brouwerij DuBois for a night of analog sound. 5-8 PM

 

Friday, April 17

  • RiverRun International Film Festival – Opening night! 170+ films. 9 days. Watch narratives, documentaries, and shorts from established and emerging filmmakers across the Triad through April 25!
  • Battle of the Badges – Who are you rooting for? The city’s police and fire departments compete in a hockey match at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds! Proceeds benefit several local nonprofits. 7 PM
  • Comedy Show – Get ready to laugh as nationally touring comedian Mark Brady takes the stage at Whiskey Taps and Tails Saloon! 7 PM
  • StoryWalk® – Families follow Peter Rabbit’s adventure on a guided walk through Reynolda Gardens! Starts at 11:15 AM.
  • Craft Night – Bedazzle your favorite book at Main & Mountain Bookstore! Crafting supplies provided; bring your own book or buy one in-store. 5:30 PM
  • Night Market – Shop from 14+ local vendors and listen to The Bo-Stevens perform at the Coalpit. 5-9 PM
  • Improv Show – Watch Foolish Mortals, Winston-Salem’s local improv troupe, perform at Camel City Playhouse. 7:30 PM

  • Book Signing – Meet local fantasy author Eric Munger at Barnes & Noble! Munger will be signing copies of his new book, “Storm Grazer Rising.” 2-5 PM
  • Speed Friending – So long, stuffy networking events! Make new friends in a casual environment at the Wake Forest Center for Private Business. Hosted by Saya from Mac & Cheese Productions. 6 PM
