The Barcelona Burger & Beer Garden Opens in Winston-Salem

The Barcelona Burger & Beer Garden, a popular North Carolina restaurant, recently opened a second location in Winston-Salem at 450 North Patterson Avenue, Suite 100.
The New Location
Although the owners announced the Winston-Salem location in early 2022, delays with permits and inspections prevented them from opening the new location as soon as originally planned. When speaking about the delays, owner Michal Bay said, “It’s really no one’s fault.” The new restaurant finally opened earlier this month, and the team is very excited that burger lovers in Winston-Salem are now able to try their award-winning food for themselves!
Located at the corner of Patterson Avenue and 4th Street, The Barcelona is the newest addition to Innovation Quarter downtown. The restaurant has big windows all around that overlook the beautiful Bailey Park and a large dining hall that is perfect for large groups. Currently, the store is open 11 AM-9 PM every day, but these hours are subject to change.
The Story
Michal Bay began his restaurant journey with Alino Pizzeria in Mooresville, North Carolina. He and his family quickly mastered their pizza recipe and won a series of awards for their outstanding cuisine. Tasting the difference in their food, loyal customers requested that Michal try making burgers. Fueled by the support of his customers and family, Michal began making plans to start a burger restaurant.
Michal traveled all across the U.S. and various other countries to taste some of the best burgers in the world, gathering inspiration for his future restaurant along the way. One city in particular left a lasting impression: Barcelona, Spain. He was struck by the beauty of the city, the kindness of its residents, and the taste of its burgers. Michal decided to name his restaurant after this place, and The Barcelona Burger & Beer Garden was born.
The Barcelona Burger & Beer Garden opened its first location in 2017 right next to Alino Pizzeria. Its quality food and immediate popularity earned the new restaurant a spot on The Charlotte Observer’s list of the 7 Best Burgers near Charlotte during its first year of business. In the five years since, The Barcelona continued to skyrocket in popularity, winning Best Burger in North Carolina and numerous other awards.
The Menu
If you’re looking for quality food with a fresh, homemade taste, The Barcelona is the place for you! They are known for having a wide selection of burgers, hot dogs, rotisserie chicken dishes, salads, craft beers, homemade sides, and more. With specialty spice blends and house sauces that add a flavorful touch to any meal, The Barcelona’s made-to-order dishes are sure to cure your cravings.
Currently, The Barcelona is operating with a limited menu that includes three different burgers, a few rotisserie chicken dishes, two salads, and a handful of homemade sides. They plan to add more options within the next few weeks and offer a dessert menu soon. Although there have been delays in obtaining the proper licensing, The Barcelona has 24 taps ready to serve craft beer and wine as soon as the paperwork is complete.
If you’re gluten-free, there’s no need to worry. The Barcelona can make any of their famous burgers with a gluten-free bun! One customer even described it as “the best gluten-free bun in the city.”
The Difference
What makes The Barcelona different from other restaurants? Their burgers are true smash burgers and hand-crafted with specially selected ingredients that keep you full without weighing you down. Owner Michal Bay said, “Our food is natural and fresh. We don’t want it to sit on your stomach or make you feel bad after you eat.”
In addition, The Barcelona’s burgers feature the perfect ratio of toppings to patty. You can clearly taste each of the toppings and sauces, but it’s not difficult to hold or bite into the burger. While some burger restaurants only offer fries as a side, The Barcelona has a wide variety. Substitute a blend of fresh roasted vegetables for a healthier alternative!
The restaurant has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and has remained a family-run establishment. In fact, the manager of the Winston-Salem location is none other than Michal’s nephew, Ali. With bright-yet-chic decor and friendly staff, The Barcelona truly makes you feel like part of the family. Michal said, “We believe in two things: good people and good burgers!”
