Winston Girls Club Is Helping Women Get Connected

Galina Savoye, a newcomer to Winston-Salem, struggled to make friends—so she launched the Winston Girls Club to help women in the city get connected.

What is the Winston Girls Club?

Winston Girls Club (WGC) is a social group open to women in Winston-Salem!

WGC hosts a mix of social events like movie nights, crafting workshops, and casual meetups at local establishments. The goal? Help people make new friends.

Getting It Started

In 2023, Galina and her husband moved to Winston-Salem from out of state. Galina had difficulty making friends as a young adult with no prior connections in the city.

Her experience inspired her to form the Winston Girls Who Walk Facebook group with her friend Tiffany in February 2025. When she wanted to host other events besides walking, she also launched the Winston Girls Club in March 2025.

• By the Numbers: The group’s grown fast—in less than six months, it’s picked up 500 followers on Facebook, 800 on Instagram, and 3,200 on TikTok.

What People Are Saying

The group has already made a big difference in the lives of many women—most of them, like Galina, are transplants too.

• “The events are so nice—they’re super low pressure,” said Maggie, who attended Galina’s very first event. “A lot of people are coming by themselves and don’t know anyone, so it gives you an opportunity to meet people and let things happen naturally.”
• “I made two new friends while I was [at Winston Girls Club’s screening of “Grease”] that were also super new to the area,” said Rosie, another longtime attendee. “We’ve gone to other places around town outside of the group.”

What’s Next?

“I would love to create a membership so that I can do this more full-time,” said Galina, who currently runs Winston Girls Club as a side gig. She explained that events would still be open to everyone, but those with a membership would receive a discount on their tickets.
